Macao Style Vegetarian Mock Meat

Have bookmarked to cook Macao Style Pork Chops long time ago but never got down to do it.  Looking through this recipe, I realised that I could substitute the pork chops with vegetarian mock meats.
Was really satisfied with the result.  The mock meat slices were awesome, tasty and yummy.  I wouldn't mind preparing it again for vegans to enjoy.
Ingredients
original recipe from Yum Yum Magazine No. 48 with modifications
[serves 6]
500 gm wet gluten balls [mee keen] - sliced [can you vegetarian mock pig intestines]
some  toasted sesame seeds
some oil for pan frying
Marinade
3 tbsp light soy sauce
3 tbsp worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp cooking wine
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp each of 5 spice powder and pepper
  1. Slice mock meats about 1/2 cm thickness.
  2. Marinate with marinade for several hours or overnight in the fridge.
  3. Heat oil in non-stick pan, pan fry meat pieces without the marinade until the edges are brown and slightly crispy.  Flip over to fry the other side.
  4. Dish out on serving platter.
  5. Add some water to marinade.  Pour into pan to boil until it is thickened. Add some  toasted sesame seeds [optional if you prefer some gravy].
  6. Pour over fried mock meat, sprinkle some sesame seeds over meat.

Looks great! What sauce can be used to replace worcestershire sauce? I hardly keep this sauce at home. By the way do you have vegetarian sambal belacan recipe?

Hi Ivy, looks and tasted good. The mock meat is soft and very tasty. Without the gravy, it is crispy and is good with chilli sauce or mayo and cucumber.

Kimmy, this dish look very appetizing even though it is made with mock meat. I bet if using meat, it would be super yummy too!

Hi Vivian, its like soy sauce, comes in a small bottle with tall, slender neck. Some people use it as dipping sauce. Mushrooms granules is available at stalls selling vegetarian food ingredients. All are okay with me, basically they are made from mushrooms.

Hi Joyce, I think you are still young, hehehe! As we age and more health conscious, going green is good too.

Hi Mich, looks real but not that chewy as real meat. Tasty, yes.

Hi Phong Hong, the marinade is actually for real meat and serve with baked buns. Yummylicious, I have yet to post the recipe which is with pork fillet.

Thanks for this information One of the best and the safest options to have is the Veg Chicken. This is a great substitute if you what to have the feel of chicken meat but consume vegetables. Usually, this product is manufactured with soya or alternative chunks which are completely veg processed. Having vegetable substitute for chicken that you can consume.
