PORK CHOPS WITH ONIONS IN SUPERIOR SOYA SAUCE

Just love to cook this kind of simple, easy recipe that is delicious and tasty served with rice. I like the sweetness of the onions, simple sauce ingredients and tender meat slices. Awesome, homey dish.
Recipe adapted from my selected cookbook [Yum Yum Magazine No. 102] for this month’s Cookbook Countdown Event #11
Ingredients
300 gm pork tenderloin – cut 1 cm thick slices [pounded to tenderize]
2 onions – shredded
Marinade
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp pepper
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tbsp cornstarch
2-3 tbsp water
Sauce Ingredients
2 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp wine
3 tbsp water
½ tbsp sugar

  1. In a mixing bowl, mix meat slices with water until well absorbed. Add in the remaining marinade ingredients and lastly the cornstarch. Mix well and marinade for an hour.
  2. Heat up 1-2 tbsp oil, pan fry meat slices until brown on both sides and at least 80% cooked. Push aside.
  3. Using the remaining oil, add in the shredded onions and fry until fragrant. Stir fry to combine ingredients and add in the seasoning sauce. Bring to a simmering boil and cooked until sauce is thick.
  4. Dish up to serve. Garnish with zucchini slices or lettuce if preferred.

Kimmy, this is yum! yum! Very basic seasoning and what I like is that there is lots of onions. I enjoy onions as they bring lots of flavors.

Hi Phong Hong, you are right. I like the onions very much, it is sweet and tasty. I don't mind just having this dish with rice. Simple and easy.

Hi Kimmy,
This dish must be very flavourful and sweet from the onions! I once cooked a similar dish like this, but braised with a whole chicken, and it was so "onion-y" sweet!
Yes, I agree that just this dish alone with rice is enough!

Hi Joyce, this dish is quite similar to Japanese Braised Meat with Onions Bento Rice. The only difference is I think they use Mirin and Japanese soy sauce. Yellow onion is sweet when cooked.

Hi Chloe, thanks for the feedback. This dish is simple enough and quick to cook if you use pork tenderloin which is tender and lean. Tasty and healthy dish.
