CNY 2015 Flower Shape Chocolate German Cookies [花花巧克力德式酥饼]

Made these after baking the plain and marble German cookies.  Like the previous bakes, this one turned out well and as good as the previous two as the recipe is the same.
Verdict - the cookies are crispy, melt-in the mouth and very chocolaty.  It's a keeper and a good cookie to bake if you like chocolate flavoured cookies.  The dough is easy to prepare and handle.

Tips - You can make this when you are making the Chocolate Marbled German Cookies.  Actually, with the Chocolate Marbled Cookies' recipe you can make 3 different types of German Cookies.  Hahaha!, imagination running 'wild' or 'confused'.  Just double the quantity, use a quarter of the plain to make the plain flower shape cookies, a quarter of the chocolate dough to make the chocolate flower shape cookies and the remaining half portions to make the marbled cookies.  Very simple....

I made a double portion [shown in red] and use potato starch.
Recipe Adapted from Anncoo Journal
Ingredients
[makes 105 pieces]
125 gm butter [250 gm]
40 gm icing sugar [80 gm] - sifted
125 gm potato starch or corn starch [250 gm]
20 gm cocoa powder [40 gm] - sifted twice
60 gm plain flour [120 gm] - sifted twice
  1. Beat butter and icing sugar till fluffy and lighter in color.
  2. Sift in potato starch, cocoa powder and plain flour, mix to form a soft chocolate dough.
  3. Fill the dough into nozzle mould of your choice, press it with the thumb into the baking tray line with parchment paper and place some coloured rice on top of the piped out cookie dough.
  4. Bake at preheated oven at 170 degrees C for 13-15 mins depending on the size of your cookies.
  5. Remove from oven, leave to cool completely on  a wire rack and store in airtight container.

Hi Victoria, don't mention. Just love to share reliable recipes and this one is really good. My neighbour told me, her daughter in Japan requested for her to bring along Aunty Kimmy's cookies during CNY.

Hi Fion, the dough texture is easy to handle as I pipe them. Not oily and the shape stays even after baking.

Hi Mui Mui, I was just trying to make varieties with the same dough to save time, hehehe! Luckily it turns out well.

Hi Phong Hong, I wasn't too sure if these cookies are good. But they really are good whether is plain or chocolate or marbled. Worth baking them. You will love it.

Hi Zoe, Imagine 400 over pieces from the portion that I made but not a piece left in my house. All already given away. Next year, I make more and less variety....

Hi Yen, I think Ann Low's recipe did mention corn flour. Maybe you can try with corn flour if the potato starch is not available.
