FRIED TUMERIC CHICKEN [OOI KEOW KAY]

This is an easy yet yummylicious fried chicken which is supposed to be confinement mothers but it was so delicious [tasty and fragrant] that my whole family [young and old] loves it too.
Try it if you believe me and you will love it.  Here, I am sharing the modified version [using less of sesame oil and more of cooking oil for the frying].  I supposed you can use cooking oil and omit the sesame oil, it is still good.  The original recipe uses 1 cup sesame oil and 1 tbsp pounded fresh tumeric.

Recipe Source - adapted from  Nyonya Flavours [modified]
Ingredients
1 kg chicken thigh - cut bite size pieces
1 tbsp sesame oil
1 cup cooking oil for frying
Marinade
1 tbsp tumeric powder
1 tsp salt to taste
1/4 tsp pepper powder
2-3 tbsp cornflour
  1. Marinade chicken pieces with marinade for at least an hour or overnight in the fridge.
  2. Heat oil in sauce pan or wok over medium heat.
  3. Deep fry marinated chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and yellow in colour.
  4. Dish up.  Serve immediately.

Kimmy, turmeric fried chicken is one of my favourites. But I have never eaten the one fried using sesame oil. Combination of turmeric and sesame oil seem strange to me.

Hi Phong Hong, sesame seed oil is used to fry this chicken for confinement ladies, otherwise any cooking oil should be okay. I think less 'heaty'.

Hi Lay Pheng, there are a few more fried chicken dishes that I cooked to share with LTU. Never in my cooking that I have cooked so many flavours of fried chicken continuously in a month. Not too healthy for old lady and gentleman in the family, hehehe! But I love fried chicken too.

Kimmy,
I know this fried chicken marinated with turmeric powder is flavorful and tasty. My big kids like it ... aiyoh they like any deep fried food. But I'm cutting down abit cos lazy to do to much cleaning in kitchen ... hee hee.

Hi Karen, Phong Hong knows that I don't 'deep fry' food in my kitchen but these days I do at home in small quantities using a small sauce pan. Less oil is needed and I cover the pan with some clean white paper when frying. My kitchen is very clean, not much cleaning up to do after that. You should try this way.
