Thai Style Garlic Steamed Grouper

This steamed fish dish was inspired by Wendy [Table for 2 .. or more] which was really good.  My hubby's very first reaction to this dish was, 'Wow!, this is good!', 'Much better than other ways of steaming fish'.  Moreover, the fish is very fresh from his fishing trip.  I used calamansi limes [limau kasturi] juice that blends very well with the other ingredients. Very appetising... Will definitely prepare this again... Didn't bother to take more pictures cos' we wanted to savour the steamed fish steaming hot, hahaha!.

Ingredients
[adapted from Wendykk with some modifications for easier reference]
300-400 gm fresh grouper [garoupa] - scaled and cleaned
some coriander leaves
Steaming Sauce Ingredients [combine together]
4 big cloves of garlic - chopped
3 chilli padi - slice thinly
1 lemongrass - slice thinly [used the top portion]
2 tbsp calamansi lime juice
1 tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tbsp vegetable oil
1 tsp sesame oil
1 tsp fish sauce [I used anchovies fish sauce]
1/2 tsp salt

  1. Place a tablespoon of the mixed steaming ingredients on steaming plate, then place cleaned fish on top.
  2. Prepare steamer and bring water to boil.  Place steaming tray with fish to steam over high heat for 8-10 minutes or until cooked through.
  3. Remove from steamer.  Garnish with coriander leaves and serve immediately.

Wah, Kimmy! Very appetising steamed fish. So, you get a steady supply of fish, huh? I used to order this dish at the Thai restaurant. But sometimes their fish not fresh :(

The sauce looks good and coupled with a freshly caught fish, the dish is superb...must try!

Hi Phong Hong, yes, my hubby semi retired, so has time to go fishing. Hard to describe how good this dish is but my hubby's reaction explains it all.
