I normally prefer to cook brown beans [see post] instead of these red beans which I was told are known as Tien Chin Red Beans.
Verdict - This dessert is tasty and the tangerine peel has a pungent smell but not bitter at all.
According to Boon red beans have significant amounts of fiber and soluble fiber, with one cup of cooked beans providing between 9 to13 grams of fiber. Beans are also high in protein, complex carbohydrates and iron.

Kimmy, are these red beans same as "ang tau"? My grandma also likes to put orange peel but I don't like the orange smell in ang tau thng.
ReplyDeleteHi Phong Hong, this is 'ang tau'. I normally don't add the orange peel. But it's no too bad, very refreshing smell.
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmy, I usually add coconut milk into my ang tau thng also...very yummy:)
ReplyDeleteHi Jeannie, never tried it but will keep in mind next time to add it.
