Sweet Sour Prawns With Capsicum

Sweet Sour Prawns With Capsicum

Ingredients for this dish

Most families would prefer to eat out on Sundays but not for my Ma. Instead she taught my sister in-law to prepare 3 dishes and a simple soup for dinner last Sunday. The ingredients for this dinner costs less than Ringgit 20.00 for our family of 10. Isn't it worth the effort.

We had meatball and fishball soup with 'tong chye' to enhance the flavour of the soup. When serving, we add spring onions and garlic crisps.

For this dish, my sister in-law paid Ringgit 7.00 for 1/2 kg of prawns.

Ingredients

500 gm medium size fresh prawn - shelled and washed
1 green capsicum - cut wedges
1/2 carrot - sliced 1 red chilli - cut wedges
1 big onion - cut wedges
a handful of roasted cashew nuts
2 tbsp oil

Seasoning Sauce
2 tbsp tomato sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp chilli sauce

2 tsp sugar
  1. Heat oil in wok to saute prawns till firm.
  2. Add cut carrots, capsicum, chilli, onions and seasoning sauce. Stir fry on high heat till all ingredients are cooked.
  3. Add cashew nuts and stir to mix. Dish out to serve with plain rice.
Notes
  • no salt needed as the sauce is salty enough
  • no thickening needed for this dish
  • prawns must be very fresh
